When it comes to joinery Haywood Heath has no better company than our own. Our team uses their experience and skills together with high tech machines. This gives them plenty of options when utilising wood. In addition to timber doors and windows, we can create staircases, gates, orangeries, conservatories, and more.
Wooden windows look great but they will eventually begin to decay. You may want to consider replacing yours with contemporary uPVC designs. However, they probably won’t possess the same warmth or character. You don’t want to go with the easy approach and simply replace them. Instead, you should think about the benefits of restoring the current installations. You can use the following step-by-step guide to help you deal with rot and damp.
Cut first and then clean
Start by cutting as much of the rotten wood out as possible. Use an all-metal chisel to handle problematic timber and damp. After you’re done with the affected area, make sure you have a clean, solid foundation. Next, you must stabilise and treat the exterior before progressing. Any epoxy primer should be sufficient. Apply it to any cracks or holes within the wood. This shall stop water or damp from getting back inside the timber.
You might have some huge cracks or holes to contend with. If so, a good idea would be to use a mouldable epoxy mortar. Fill them as tightly as you can. Sometimes, the chips and holes will only be small. In these instances, you can use a multipurpose polyurethane filler adhesive sealant. This shall block the damp’s attempts to re-enter the wood. All that’s left after this is to apply your finish. Just make sure you paint or treat the frame carefully.
At Wood & Wisdom, we are capable of fashioning even the most complex wooden structures. Once we’ve created your product, we move it straight to site. From there, we will conduct, supervise, or advise on installation.
